Research 101

My research has taken a huge step forward throught my analysis and meetings with teachers and special needs teachers along with all the information I have recieved from various different organisations such as Autism Ireland. I have also backed it up with different documentories which, I found on youtube and through navagating around the internet.

Autistic children are treated different to most other children on a daily basis and this is primarily because they are different but NOT in the way of being a child with a learning difficulty because that is a mis-conception. Not all autistic children have learning difficulties or are disconnected from learning, they may seem tuned out or not interested but they are actually taking everything in. They are interested in what you have to say and trying to remember that instead of being distracted by writing or taking things down.

There are many thing to be considered and looked at and i have come across many re-occuring problems within this sector, which have thrown up and interesting insight and hopefull will allow for multiply ideas in my concept generation.

Now I will begine to write a brief Research report With all the relevant information needed for reflection and to look upon.;

So its been a few days now since I last posted about the project. So the project has gained momentum and I have identified the focus of my project on a education toy for children with learning difficulties in mainstream education. The main difficulty I am looking to focus on is the category of autism and autistic children. There is a lot of information regarding autism and autistic children but i want to address this information in a way that may be able to change or help in the development of these people.

On Friday I have a meeting with special needs teachers in my local school and another school close by. This will allow me to get real insight in to the class room education these students get and problems they may face in mainstream education. As these teachers see the child progress through the education system they may be able to give me some information, which I can develop in to a specific field of this problem. Autism as a whole is a broad array of different disorders under one heading so it will be imposable to solve all these in one solution. However if i can create something that focuses on a specific area of this and makes for a better life and education for the child this will be a start in a long process to address this issue.

The beginning of the research has begun which has given me the basis and insight but on a very limited level. Now with the interviews i hope i will gain the vital information to take my research and knowledge in a new direction and throw up some interesting facts i have not come across in my preliminary research from books, articles and studies.

I said a toy but after these meetings the project may take a different direction so lets hope it all goes well and it can benefit all parties involved, me the teacher and most importantly the CHILD!!!!

Day3

Toady’s been a day of research so far into Education and looking at all different aspects of within education. This broke all 3 levels of the education system in Ireland down in to sub categories.

This is a simple subsection of the Irish education System with some of my personal notes beside each of the points.
´╗┐After looking at the education system I decided to look at primary level. This decision was a personal one from a previous experience I had from the year before. I had a meeting with a primary school teacher and class and found an internal problem within the educational programme.
When I visited my local school I met a student with ADHD and Asperger syndrome in the same class. This was linked to research I was doing for a previous project but it brought to light some interesting research for me. Usually these two students didnt interact with the class and have difficulty expressing themselves. However when we gave them a physical game which was directly linked with education these two students really came out of their shell and became an intricate part of the class. This was a real insight for me when it was brought to my attention that usually these students where left behind and not really included by the other students.
So this made me think if I could make something in the education system that combines the class as a whole and doesnt exclude such students but makes them possibly the main part of the class would be a really nice achievement. This combats the problem that these students tend not to interact with other and or converse so this will expose them to this in a fun interactive way which doesnt make them feel as if they are getting specific treatment but really appreciated as part of the group. Hidden learning for the whole class bringing all fa sits of the class together in a way that excludes no one.

I have wrote down all the differnt problem areas that where brought to light from the brainstorming session yesterday with the assistance of members from my class. There where a total of 51 main problem areas identified throught this brain storm.

I listed and underlined all these on an a4 sheet in random order to begin a list for gathering data. The purpose of this was, I went around the people in my class and asked them to select 5 areas they felt where the key main real world problems out of the 51. This would narrow my options down by using other peoples thought and opinions on the conditions in the world and of the world that need addressing. This is a basic form of research but very narrow minded. However for the sake of just narrowing down a field to research this is perfectly satisfactory.After asking the members of my class I concluded this basic research with 5 potential areas for further analysis and a radom selection of one subject by myself to have 6 choices.

  • Global Warming
  • Global Economy
  • Education
  • Disaster Areas

    6 main ideas with Education as the main chosen idea,which will now be my topic for further research and the field I will look into.

This process was mainly for finding an area to work in by using the knowledge and uderstanding that each person has personally. I have essentially taken the opinions from my fellow students and used their personal experience and opinions in finding an adaquete field for study.

This minor part of research is very useful for getting thought the stages as each logical step leads on to the next and by a process of elimination solves my problem of identifying a real world problem.

Essentially i have used my fellow students in getting thought the fuzz front end of research and getting to a viable point where my actual research into my found problem can begin.

Day2

Todays the day where the identification and establishment of what my project is going to be based around is decided.

I will do this through a number of techniques as i have explained at the end of yesterdays post. As the day goes on I will document all the work and decisions made and post it at a later time today.So now the big push for today will begin and my project will get its direction for the weeks to come.
